Prepare for the Busy Holiday Travel Season

During this year’s holiday season, AAA forecasts that more than one-third of Americans will be travel. Those traveling for the year-end holidays represents a 4.4 percent increase over last year. It’s also the largest increase since AAA has been tracking holiday travel back in 2001.

For the more than 102 million people who will pack up their cars for a holiday road trip it is estimated that travel times in the most congested cities could take as much as four times longer than a normal trip. Yikes!

And yes, the majority of those people traveling this year will be doing so by vehicle, as more American will be driving than ever before.

Based on historical and recent travel trends, it is expected that most drivers will experience the greatest amount of congestion prior to the hectic holiday week. This will all start on Wednesday, December 19, as both regular commuters and holiday travelers mix on the roadways. But the worst day of all to travel will be on Thursday, December 20. So, our tip is if you can, avoid traveling during peak commuting hours, since holiday travelers will be mixing in and causing more roadway hang ups. And if you are commuting, make sure you leave bright and early, or if you can, hit the roads after the typical morning commute.

So what’s causing this increase in driving? Gas.

This year, gas has been relatively inexpensive, but as the holiday season has approached, the gas prices have dropped to the cheapest pricing of the year. Combine this with a higher disposable income and that means more of us will be hitting the roads.

And yep….many of these drivers are headed down here to the Sunshine State. Matter fact, 3 of the top ten year end travel destinations are in this state. (Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami).

So, if you’re going to be one of those who will be hitting the roads this holiday season, remember to pack your patience, make sure you’re ready with the tunes or stocked up on your favorite podcasts, and make sure your car is ready for the drive. That’s where we can help! Make sure you get your car serviced before you take off on your holiday festivities. Click here to schedule your appointment at Courtesy Palm Harbor Honda today.
