Top 5 Tips for Buying a Car as a Holiday Gift

You always see the commercials this time of year of those who give the holiday gift of a car. But buying a car as gift isn’t always as simple as ordering a huge bow for the roof. We have some tips that can help make the process easier.

  • Make sure you’re purchasing the right vehicle. There’s nothing worse than giving someone an expensive and elaborate gift like a car and see that look of disappointment on the giftee’s face, where they fake that they’re excited, but really this is not the present that they wanted. To avoid this, make sure you talk to the person you’ll be giving the car to and verify that this is, indeed a car that they are looking at.
  • If you’re financing the car, making it a surprise gift could be out of the question. Why? Well, say you’re buying the car for your spouse….you’ll need to both be listed on loan papers and other documents. If this is a gift though and you absolutely want it to be a surprise but you do still need to go through the financing process, talk to us, as we may be able to come up with a solution on how to make the purchase.
  • You’ll also want to consider how to register and title the vehicle. If it’s for a family member, you’ll probably want to have the car registered in their name, but once again, if it’s a surprise, they won’t be present to sign the papers. Again, we may be able to come up with a solution.
  • Also, do make sure that you let us know that this is a surprise. That way we don’t make any phone calls or send emails that could ruin the surprise.
  • Finally, make sure you order the vehicle ahead of time. You want to make sure that you have a bit of breathing room between the purchase and the delivery date, just in case there are issues. So, don’t buy the car on Christmas Eve and expect the bow to be all ready to go!
